Healthy steps is a developing project with Root Causes. Although exercise is universally seen as a way to improve health, we recognize that the cost of gym memberships, equipment, transportation and lack of a safe environment can be barriers to physical activity participation. As a volunteer you will be paired with a community member, help them come up with a walking based SMART goal and join them on walks at Durham Parks and Rec Healthy Mile Trails. Our project aims to better connect low-income Duke patients with low cost, easily accessible physical activity programming within the Durham community to improve overall health.
